410 A.D. First mentioning of Linz in a Roman handbook as "Lentia".
799 First mentioning of the city with its German name in connection with the Martin Church as "Linze".
806 Linz is being declared a market - a small city that with the privilege to trade.
1210 Under the reign of the Babengergers Linz serves as a fortress against Bavaria.
1490 Emperor Friedrich III makes Linz the capital of Upper Austria, extends the castle and makes Linz residence city for a while.
1612 - 1626 World famous astronom Johannes Kepler lives in Linz and finishes his works. The University of Linz is named after him.
